The 2 Step Beginners Guide to Building Your Brand

A brand is a symbol, design, name, sound, reputation, emotion, employees, tone, pretty much anything that sets you apart from others. So why is it important to have a brand, and how do you build one? Here at Big Red Jelly, we believe in keeping things simple and efficient, so here are two simple steps to kick start your brand quickly and efficiently.

1. Create your Vision and Mission statement.

People need to understand what your values, beliefs, and views are, but most importantly they need to know who YOU are. Your vision and mission statement is what people will use to learn about you, your goals, and ideas. Without a clear vision of where you want to be and what you want to do, your brand will fall flat. There are no wrong visions or mission statements, there are just certain companies that stand out from the rest of the pack, and the reason they stand out is because of their, yep you guessed it: Mission and Vision Statements. If you have trouble thinking of one just remember the more simple the better. Apple’s very first mission statement was “Think Different” and look at what they were able to accomplish with that simple vision.

2.  Be yourself.

So many brands get caught up in the latest trends, but really a trend is just something started by a brand doing something different. So be DIFFERENT and BE YOURSELF because you could be the next trendsetter. Don’t be afraid to be unique, I am sure the person that designed McDonald’s golden arches had a few people laugh at them during the design process. That didn’t stop them from creating one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Whether you’re a business owner, designer, entrepreneur, teacher, or even a stay at home mom, you have a brand. You just need to find out what it is, and these first steps are a great way to start.
