Meet Patriot
Patriot Growth Insurance Services grew the way a lot of national insurance platforms do: through years of acquiring smaller, well-established local agencies and folding them into one ownership group. Each of those agencies had already built something valuable on its own, real relationships with real people in their communities. Patriot’s challenge was turning a hundred-plus of them into a single national brand without losing what made any one of them work.
The company sits in an unusual spot in its market. It’s too big now to read as a small local shop, but it’s built entirely on the kind of community trust the large national brokers never had to earn. Getting the brand to hold both of those truths at once, without flattening either one, was the real work ahead of Big Red Jelly.

The Challenge: A Name Patriot Couldn’t Change, and a Brand It Needed To
Patriot came to Big Red Jelly with a constraint most rebrands don’t have: the name itself was fixed. Changing “Patriot” wasn’t on the table, even though the name was working against the company. Stars, reds, whites, and blues had crept into the existing brand, reading as politically loaded to plenty of people who just wanted an insurance broker. Layered on top of that was a bigger identity problem. As Patriot scaled toward becoming a true national platform, its look and feel still felt cold and corporate, the kind of perception that closes doors rather than opening them.
- A way to keep the name “Patriot” while removing its unwanted political meaning
- A visual identity modern enough to match a national ambition, without erasing the trust of 100+ local agencies
- A system built to work at every scale, from a national billboard to a single agency’s business card
The Solution: Rewriting What “Patriot” Means, Not the Word Itself
Since the name wasn’t moving, the job was to change what it meant.
- Redefine “patriot” around community and neighbors instead of politics or country
- Build a visual system modern enough to feel national, warm enough to still feel local
- Design a brand flexible enough to scale across 100+ independently run agencies
Part 01: Rewriting What a Patriot Actually Is
Turning a Name Liability Into a Name Story
Since the name wasn’t moving, the real work was figuring out what it should mean instead. Big Red Jelly’s strategists dug into what Patriot actually stood for underneath the name, and the answer had nothing to do with flags. As brand strategist Anna Thaler put it, “to be a patriot means caring about your neighbor and wanting everyone around you to succeed.” That became the new name story, patriotism reframed as community rather than country, the thing that ties a hundred local agencies together instead of the thing that made prospects uneasy.
What we developed:
- A redefinition of “patriot” built around community and neighbors, not politics or country
- A name story that lets Patriot keep its name while changing what it means
- Messaging that ties 100+ local agencies to one shared idea
Part 02: Modern Enough to Lead, Warm Enough to Trust
Balancing Bold and Familiar in One Visual System
Patriot’s leadership wanted to be bold. Brand director Joshua Lee, who led the rebrand, put it plainly: “Insurance companies typically play it safe, which is why they all look the same. Patriot wanted to push the boundaries instead.” Getting there meant balancing two things that usually fight each other: modern enough to feel like a serious national platform, warm enough to still feel human and local. The logo itself went through a real process, roughly 90 initial directions narrowed to 40 or 50, then a final six, then three, with Patriot’s leadership walked through the thinking at every stage.
What we developed:
- A serif wordmark chosen for warmth and credibility
- A new “orbit” mark built to signal momentum and movement
- A gradient color system paired with warm, real photography of local business owners
- A final logo direction narrowed from roughly 90 initial concepts
Part 03: One Brand, a Hundred Places to Use It
Building a System That Scales Across 100+ Agencies
A brand that only works in one format doesn’t help a company operating in a hundred-plus markets. Every piece had to hold up whether it showed up on a national billboard or a single local agency’s business card, carrying the same brand without flattening the local relationships each agency had already built. That tension sits right inside Patriot’s own tagline: local relationships, national strength.
What we developed:
- Business cards, letterheads, signage, and billboards
- Apparel, merchandise, and a full Instagram content system
- A custom logo animation and a curated photo library
- An interactive brand style guide, a one-page quick reference guide, and a presentation template
Part 04: Keeping a 100+ Agency Rebrand on Track
Managing Decisions Across a Complex Organization
Rebranding a single business is one thing. Rebranding a holding company built through years of acquisitions, with decisions running through multiple layers of leadership, is another. Joshua Lee built a Gantt chart from the very first discovery call, mapping out exactly when decisions needed to be made across the entire brand timeline before a single deliverable was built. “The strategy, the narrative, the messaging, and the verbals all went really smoothly,” Lee said. The deliverables phase, working against a shorter runway, got tighter than the planning phase had been, but the groundwork held.
What we developed:
- A full project Gantt chart mapping decisions across the entire brand timeline
- Clear approval milestones set before a single deliverable was built
- A process that kept strategy, narrative, and messaging on schedule despite a short deliverables runway
Part 05: Content Built for Every Line of Business
Turning One Brand Into Ready-to-Use Content Across 100+ Agencies
A new brand doesn’t help an agency on the ground until it shows up in the content that agency actually uses day to day. Patriot’s business spans several distinct lines, property and casualty, employee benefits, personal insurance, and consulting, plus niche coverage in industries like aviation, cyber risk, and construction. Big Red Jelly built a content library organized around that structure, so any agency in the network could pull assets built for their specific line of business instead of adapting generic national materials.
What we developed:
- A photo and media library organized around Patriot’s core lines of business and niche industry categories
- Category-specific content built for Property & Casualty, Employee Benefits, Personal Insurance, and Consulting & Other Services
- Ready-to-use templates: email headers, a presentation deck, social media graphics, business cards, and digital letterhead, all built to the new brand system
Bring It All Together
Patriot didn’t get to change its name. It got to change what the name means. What used to read as cold, corporate, and a little politically loaded now reads as a national platform built on local trust, bold enough to stand out in an industry built on playing it safe.

One Name, New Meaning
Patriot kept its name and its history while rebuilding what that name signals to everyone who hears it.
Built for 100+ Agencies
One brand system, flexible enough to hold up on a national billboard and a single agency’s business card alike.
Room to Grow
Freed from a cold, corporate read, Patriot’s leadership now has room to expand on their own terms.
The Name Was Never the Problem
A rebrand doesn’t always mean starting over. Patriot proved a company can keep its name, its recognition, and years of equity, and still completely change what people feel the moment they hear it. The work was never about erasing Patriot’s history. It was about giving that history a new meaning to grow into.
